Subject: Positioning of the thermocouples disc in the test corner

Question:

The standards do not specify how many disks to place and where to place the blackened disks on the black-painted board.

Common sense would suggest that there are enough blackened disks to cover the surface of the tested appliance. However, experience shows that there is inconsistency among the CBTLs not only in terms of distance between the blackened-disks but also in terms of distribution on the surface of the black-painted boards.

REQUIREMENT OF THE STANDARD:

• TEST CORNER=> Dull black-painted plywood approximately 20 mm thick

• THERMOCOUPLES=> Fine-wire thermocouples not exceeding 0.3 mm

• BLACKENED DISKS=> Copper or Brass, 15 mm in diameter and 1 mm thick. The front of the surface is flush with the surface of the black-painted boards.

Decision:

Blackened disks are to be mounted on the surface of the black-painted boards and located on centres 100 mm +/- 20mm, or closer together.
